❃ Hanging almost perfectly still in mid-air, wings beating fast against the wind while its head stays locked in place, the Eurasian kestrel is one of the most recognizable birds of prey across its range. This small, russet-backed falcon is a master of the hover — holding position over a field or roadside verge as it scans the ground below for the faint movements of voles, mice, and insects among the grass.

❃ Its hunting relies on a hidden sense. Kestrels can see ultraviolet light, and the urine trails left by voles glow visibly under UV, marking out well-used runways across a meadow like lines on a map. From a stationary hover twenty meters up, a kestrel can pinpoint a vole by the shine of its trail alone, then drop in a controlled, feet-first plunge to seize it. Males wear a blue-gray head and tail, while females and young birds are warmer brown throughout.

❃ Found across Europe, Asia, and Africa, the Eurasian kestrel is remarkably adaptable — equally at home over open farmland, alpine meadows, and the verges of busy highways, where it hunts the rough grass that roadsides leave undisturbed. Though still widespread, its numbers have slipped in parts of Europe as intensive farming thins the small mammals it depends on. A familiar silhouette over the countryside, and one of the few raptors that can seemingly stop time in the air.

When It Arrives

Don’t worry if yours looks a little flattened when first unpacked — the filling is designed to bounce back and simply needs a little time and fluffing to take its full shape.

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

I love love LOVE my Kestrel so much! <3 The texture is so silky soft to pet and touch, it is sturdy yet so very cuddly. The packaging had a little plastic kind of smell but the plushie itselt didn't smell. I am very happy with this purchase.
