❃ Architeuthis, better known as the giant squid, is one of the deep ocean’s most mysterious inhabitants. Females can reach around 40 feet (12 meters) or more in total length, much of it coming from a pair of extraordinarily long feeding tentacles. Giant squid also possess the largest known eyes in the animal kingdom—roughly the size of dinner plates—helping them detect movement and shadows in the dim waters far below the surface.

❃ Eight muscular arms and two elongated feeding tentacles surround a sharp, parrot-like beak used to tear apart prey. The tentacles are equipped with powerful suckers lined with toothed rings, allowing Architeuthis to seize fish and other squid before pulling them toward its mouth. Yet this formidable hunter has predators of its own, particularly sperm whales, whose bodies sometimes bear circular scars left by encounters with giant squid.

❃ For centuries, giant squid were known largely from specimens washed ashore, remains recovered from whales, and sailors’ tales of enormous sea monsters. Their elusive nature likely contributed to legends such as the Kraken, and living individuals were not photographed in their natural deep-sea habitat until the 21st century. Strange, enormous, and rarely encountered, Architeuthis remains a powerful reminder of how much of the deep ocean is still waiting to be explored.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.

We have a Lab/Heeler named Billy mix who loves his toys and doesn’t destroy them, so even very nice stuffies like this Giant Squid. He loves it! He brings it to us every time we come home and first thing in the morning. It’s so funny to see him running at you with the tentacles flying around everywhere. We’ll be getting him some other crazy one at some point.

I’m very happy with the squid! I have the large size and it’s quite soft and very huggable! The mantle is well stuffed so it’s firm enough to not bend but still squishy, along with some, what I’m assuming is like plastic beads giving it some nice weight. The tentacles and arms are also nicely stuffed so it’s not just fabric! A very good purchase :)
