THE GIANT CAMBRIAN MOUTH
❃ Emerging from the fossil record of the Cambrian seas, Omnidens amplus was a remarkable ancient animal known from its extraordinary mouth apparatus and associated claw-like structures. Its name means roughly “large” or “giant,” fitting an animal whose preserved mouthparts led researchers to estimate a body length of up to around 1.5 metres.
❃ Its most striking feature was its elaborate feeding apparatus, formed from curved plates, rows of smaller spined elements, and larger triangular plates bearing prominent spines. Talon-like structures with robust spines may have belonged to the frontal appendages, giving this Cambrian creature an intimidating collection of grasping and sensory structures around its head.
❃ Omnidens amplus lived roughly 520 million years ago in the Chengjiang Biota of what is now China. Once interpreted as the mouth of a giant priapulid worm, it is now regarded as a stem-group arthropod closely related to the gilled lobopodian Pambdelurion. Its unusual anatomy offers a glimpse into a time when early animal life was experimenting with body forms unlike almost anything alive today.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.
3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.
4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.
5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.
