❃ Stag beetles are among the most impressive insects in the forest, famous for the enormous antler-like jaws found on many males. These enlarged mandibles give the beetles their name, resembling the branching antlers of a stag. Despite their intimidating appearance, the oversized jaws are primarily used for wrestling rival males rather than hunting, with competitors grappling for access to mates and territory.

❃ The most dramatic stage of a stag beetle’s life happens almost entirely out of sight. Their larvae can spend several years underground or inside decaying wood, slowly feeding on rotting plant material and helping break it down. By comparison, the adult stage is relatively brief, with mature beetles emerging to reproduce and feeding on tree sap, ripe fruit, and other sugary liquids.

Females typically have much smaller but stronger jaws suited to other tasks. 2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.
