THE SPINY SEA SCORPION
❃ Crawling through the shallow marine waters of the Late Ordovician, Megalograptus was one of the earliest known eurypterids — an extinct group of aquatic arthropods often called sea scorpions. Its broad, armored body was equipped with numerous appendages, while its enlarged front limbs carried long paired spines that gave this ancient predator an unmistakably formidable appearance. Fossils from what is now Ohio preserve evidence of a creature that lived roughly 450 million years ago, when much of the region lay beneath a warm prehistoric sea.
❃ Megalograptus possessed specialized appendages that appear to have played several roles in its underwater life. Its enlarged, spine-covered limbs may have been used to rake through seafloor sediments in search of prey, while other appendages helped it swim, detect, grasp, and shred food. Some of the spines may even have contained sensory organs, allowing this ancient arthropod to investigate its surroundings through touch and other signals. Its prey likely included marine invertebrates such as trilobites and other eurypterids.
❃ Living in the shallow seas of Late Ordovician North America, Megalograptus belonged to a lineage that would survive for more than 200 million years before disappearing at the end of the Permian. Reaching around 30 inches in some estimates, it was an impressive predator for its time, yet it represents only one chapter in the extraordinary history of ancient sea scorpions. Megalograptus remains a striking reminder of a vanished ocean world where armored arthropods prowled the seafloor long before dinosaurs appeared.

When It Arrives
When It Arrives
Your plush travels inside our satchel, and some designs may be vacuum-sealed to keep them protected and compact during their journey. Don’t worry if yours looks a little flattened when first unpacked — the filling is designed to bounce back and simply needs a little time and fluffing to take its full shape.
Bringing it back to form:
1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.
2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.
3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.
4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.
5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.
Plush make this journey every day and naturally bounce back after being unpacked. If yours still isn’t looking like itself after a week, write to us at support@mythicalwoods.com and we’ll make it right.
Care: Spot clean with mild soap. Air dry
