❃ Stingrays are among the ocean’s most graceful swimmers, seemingly flying through the water with smooth movements of their broad, wing-like pectoral fins. Found in tropical and temperate waters around the world, these flattened fish are close relatives of sharks, sharing a skeleton made primarily of cartilage rather than bone. Many spend their lives cruising just above sandy or muddy seafloors in search of their next meal.

❃ Hidden beneath a stingray’s snout is an extraordinary sensory system. Specialized organs called ampullae of Lorenzini detect the faint electrical fields produced by other animals, helping stingrays locate worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish buried beneath the sand. Their flattened bodies also provide excellent camouflage, and many species partially bury themselves when resting or hiding from predators.

❃ Some stingrays possess one or more venomous barbs along their tails, but these are primarily defensive weapons rather than tools for hunting. Stingrays generally prefer escaping danger to confronting it, using their remarkable swimming ability to glide away. From their shark-like senses to their almost effortless movement through the water, stingrays are beautifully adapted for life along the ocean floor.

Bringing it back to form:

1. Remove it from the packaging as soon as it arrives — don’t leave it packed.

2. Give it a good fluff — gently knead the body and work the limbs, wings, ears, or tail to redistribute the filling.

3. Let it breathe. Most plush regain their full shape within 1–3 days, while larger or denser designs can take up to a week.

4. Smooth any flattened or creased fur with your fingers or a soft brush as it fluffs back up.

5. Want to speed things up? Use a hairdryer on low, warm heat, held about 20cm away. Keep it moving and use short bursts between fluffs. Never use high heat.
